Herbert Prohaska is a retired Austrian footballer and coach. He was born on August 8, 1955, in Vienna, Austria. Prohaska is considered one of the greatest Austrian players of all time, playing most of his career as a midfielder.
He started his career at Rapid Vienna in 1972 and won five Austrian Bundesliga titles and one Austrian Cup during his time at the club. In 1980, he moved to Inter Milan for two seasons before returning to Rapid Vienna in 1982. He retired in 1989, having made 765 professional appearances and scored 113 goals.
Prohaska played 83 times for the Austrian national team, scoring 10 goals. He represented Austria at the 1978, 1982, and 1990 World Cups, as well as the 1984 European Championships.
After retiring, Prohaska went into coaching, starting with Rapid Vienna and later managing Austria Vienna and the Austrian national team. He is now a well-known analyst and commentator for Austrian television. In 2019, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.
